When you honour your loved one, you will help us to build the next generation of rescue craft, constructed entirely in South Africa to save lives on South African waters. For a special person in your life there is no better honour, because each time our volunteer crew launch to save lives, the name and spirit of your loved one will be right by their side.
How to participate:
Each donation of R2 000 will secure one name in the letters and numbers on the side of our new rescue boat. You may celebrate more than one person as there is no limit to how many names you can place.
LAUNCH A LEGACY NOW
A new generation of world-class rescue boats built right here in South Africa.
The NSRI is raising funds to support its essential boat replacement programme, and to improve the safety and capability of its rescue services in South Africa.
This new NSRI rescue boat, built in South Africa, will be entirely funded by our Launch a Legacy fundraising campaign and will carry the names of thousands of people to reach our target of R20 million.
The new ORC (Offshore Rescue Craft) is a 14m Search and Rescue craft that is self-righting and purpose-built for rescue operations in extreme conditions. At 14.8m long and 4.8m wide, it can be deployed on rescue missions as far as 50 nautical miles from land. It has an expected lifespan of at least 40 years and is scheduled for completion during the first half of 2021.
The investment will see the first fully South African-built offshore search and rescue craft being put together by local hands. It is a boost for what was once a thriving South African boat-building industry.
